Penske Diagnostics Communications Engineer in Reading, Pennsylvania

Position Summary:

In this exciting newly created position, you will provide day to day management of diagnostic fault codes, how they are coded, their definitions, their sources, and their uses in Penske systems. You will maximize the information available to technicians and Penske systems in order to make fast and accurate repairs. You will work with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to maintain the latest information and with our internal and vendor systems to translate and transfer that information to where it is needed. This will include maintaining the rules on when fault codes are triggered and categorizing their severity level to best suit our customers’ and Penske’s needs.

This new role is located at our Corporate campus conveniently located 7 miles South of Reading PA.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Work with OEMs to maintain the currency of fault code tables, their definitions, and their sources.

  • Work with the OEMs and other industry organizations to understand the coming developments relating to new retrieval methods and process protocols.

  • Incorporate and disseminate fault code information relating to new systems on medium and heavy duty vehicles and new OEM developments or changes to their definitions.

  • Work with other PTL groups, such as Connected Fleet, IT, 24/7, and others, to ensure that their systems are pulling accurate, understandable, and up to date information. Act as the subject matter expert on data retrieved from vehicles and its sources.

  • Work with the Maintenance Analytics team to interpret the data we are using and check its accuracy.

  • Manage the translations of fault codes between engine years and OEMs.

  • Other projects as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Communications or Electronics Engineering preferred

  • 3 years of experience with diagnostic fault codes strongly preferred.

  • Intermediate knowledge of SAE Automotive protocols required.

  • Must understand the trouble shooting process.

  • Should have insight into the design and capabilities of dual CAN networks

  • Ability to analyze a system within the context of OSI layers required.

  • Must be able to relate fault code information to the impact on our external customer.

  • Must be able to understand how this function supports other processes.

  • Must have the ability to organize information in a detailed and rules based sequence.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills required

  • Some level of project management experience preferred

  • Must be able to work well with other teams.
