Penske Motorcycle Technician in Los Angeles, California


Position Summary

An On / Off Road Motorcycle Technician’s primary responsibility is to fix and repair various motorcycles ATVs, and side by sides, while taking direction from the Lead Technician or Branch Service Manager. Expectations include the ability to diagnose and repair the following with little or no supervision: Electric Systems, Clutches, Engine Repair, Transmission repair, Hydraulic Systems, Instruments and Gauges, Tires and Tubes, Brake Systems, Suspension Systems, and Preventive Maintenance Service.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am- 4:30pm

Pay: $22.00 per hour

Location: 1104 N. Eastern Ave, Los Angels, CA 90063

Major Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the repair and diagnosis: Engines (motorcycle, ATVs, side by sides), Power train to include clutches, differentials, transmissions, drive shafts, wheels. Steering systems, front forks and shocks, rear shocks swing arms, and pivot bearings. Electrical systems including starters, alternators, staters wiring, sensors, relays. Brake systems including ABS systems.

  • Perform mechanical and general appearance repairs.

  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled motorcycles, ATVs, or side by sides.

  • Perform all levels of preventable maintenance

  • Identify warrantable repairs.

  • Maintain work area appearance and safety

  • Road test motorcycles, ATVs, or side by sides when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensued that they are working properly

  • Use hand tools such as screw drivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, jacks, and hoists, and diagnostic computers and software.

  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, lubrication equipment and machinery.

  • Adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.

  • Raise motorcycles, ATVs, and side by sides on hydraulic or pneumatic hoist and jacks.

  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.

  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.

  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.

  • Specialize in repairing and troubleshooting and possibly overhauling of major components such as engine, transmissions and differentials, to include replacing complete assemblies, fuel system components etc.

  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by Leadman or Branch Service Manager


-2-4 years practical experience with motorcycles, ATVs, and side by sides, maintenance required

-High school diploma or equivalent required

-Vocational/Technical or certification preferred

-Specialized training in the repair and replacement of vehicle components preferred

-Proficiency in the use of shop tools required

-A valid drivers license with motorcycle operators endorsement is required

-Basic computer skills preferred for data entry into maintenance systems.

-Ability to work in non-climate controlled conditions required

-Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.

-Willingness to travel as necessary within the district (customers yards and stations, close geographical area and training sites), work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.
