Penske Lead Body Shop Tech in Los Angeles, California

Penske is looking for a Lead Auto Technician to maintain the Los Angeles Sheriff's department fleet. The location would be East Los Angeles: 1104 N. Eastern Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90063.
Schedule will be Monday- Friday 6:00am-2:30pm
Penske Light Duty Technicians will generally assist in the repair and maintenance of major components or remove/replace major components of various types of vehicles. Expectations include the ability to diagnose and repair the following with little or no supervision: Clutches, Electric Systems, Air Brake systems, Heating/ Air Conditioning Systems, Instruments and Gauges, and Preventive Maintenance Service. Assign work to body repair technicians and painters. Work with the customer to finalize repair estimates. Ensure all repairs are completed in a timely manner
Review estimate to determine amount of repairs needed.
Determine if work is to be done in house or at a vendor.
Assign work to a technician.
Follow up on ongoing repairs.
Determine if repairs are on schedule.
-Follow up with vendors for completion times.
-Update the customer with expected completion times.
Inspect entire vehicle to ensure that all repairs were completed correctly.
Return vehicle to technician if repairs are not done correctly.
Inspect vehicle for any additional damage, and return it to the estimator if additional work is needed.
Self-started mentality and willingness to take on bumper to bumper vehicle maintenance and repair
Demonstrate proficiency in the repair and maintenance of - with some assistance: Engines (gas and diesel), Electrical systems including starters and alternators, HVAC systems, Steering systems, Electronics to include, Engine bolt on items such as turbos, fan clutches, injectors, cooling system etc., Brake systems including ABS, Suspension systems (spring and air)
Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services
Maintain work area appearance and safety
Road test Vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
Adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
Raise vehicles of varying sizes with hydraulic jacks or hoists.
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
Specialize in repairing and troubleshooting of major components such as engine, transmissions and differentials, to include replacing complete assemblies, turbochargers, fuel system components etc.

High School diploma or equivalent required.
Certificate for body estimating preferred.
Body Shop Experience-3 years
Leadership Experience – 2 years
-Experience working in a shop environment – 5 years
1-3 years practical experience with automotive maintenance and repair required
Specialized training in the repair and replacement of Ford vehicle components preferred
Proficiency in the use of shop tools required
A valid drivers license is required
ASE or State certification for air brakes required
Ability to work independently to drive change but also be a team player
Detail oriented, organized, flexible, and able to multi task
Good communication skills both oral and written
Basic computer skills preferred for data entry into maintenance systems.
Ability to work in non-climate controlled conditions required
Willingness to travel as necessary within the district (customers yards, close geographical area and training sites), work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.
